International fleet review 2016 in Vizag: The Indian Navy will be conducting an “International Fleet Review” from February 4 to 8. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will attend the event. The Prowess of the Indian Navy will be on display during the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2016. The IFR aims at assuring the country of the Indian Navy’s preparedness, high morale and discipline.
The International Fleet Review is being held after a gap of almost one-and-a-half decade. The IFR was held in 2001 at Mumbai.
Naval sources said “54 countries have confirmed their participation. 24 warships from foreign countries and 24 foreign Naval Chiefs, 90 foreign delegates will be attending IFR”.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the International Fleet Review (IFR) Village at Andhra University College of Engineering Grounds in Visakhapatnam on February 4.
“Nearly 400 VVIPs and VIPs are expected to arrive in the city for the four-day event. Many other visiting delegates from foreign navies will stay on board their respective ships,” the Vice-Admiral said.
Free Passes to watch events of IFR

Plans are afoot by the district administration to issue free passes to the general public to view the events. While some of the events of the IFR have restricted entry, some are allowed for public view.
District Collector Visakhapatnam N Yuvraj reviewed the arrangements at the beach road and at the galleries which have the capacity to accommodate 20,000 spectators. “Mukherjee would review the fleet on February 6. INS Sumitra, an indigenously built Naval offshore patrol vessel would be the Presidential Yacht and lead the President Column,” Naval sources added.
The Navy is making elaborate arrangements for the meet and its top brass recently made an extensive presentation to the Chief Minister about their preparations for the IFR.
Mr Naidu is learnt to have extended his full support for the event, which would put the post city on the global map and promote ‘Brand Vizag’.
